Privacy Policy
Effective Date: May 1, 2026 | Last Updated: June 12, 2026
Claire Sense Inc. ("Claire," "we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy and respecting applicable privacy laws in every jurisdiction where our Services are used, including but not limited to Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and comparable provincial, state, and national data protection legislation. This Privacy Policy describes how we handle your information when you use the ClaireCam mobile application, the Claire dashcam ecosystem, and our related services (collectively, the "Services").
Our core privacy commitment: ClaireCam does not require an account, does not collect your name, email, or any personally identifiable information (PII), and does not track you when the app is not recording. All recordings and driving data are stored locally on your device and remain under your control.
By using our Services, you agree to the handling of information in accordance with this policy and the applicable privacy laws of your jurisdiction.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Recording Data (On-Device Only)
The following data is collected only during active recording sessions and is stored locally on your device. When you are not recording, the app does not collect GPS coordinates, sensor data, or any background location information.
- Location Data: GPS coordinates, speed, heading, and altitude. This data is used for speed limit lookups, enforcement camera warnings, community hazard alerts, and driver score computation.
- Sensor Data: Accelerometer readings (longitudinal, lateral, and vertical g-forces) used for driver scoring and event detection (hard braking, sharp turns, rapid acceleration).
- Video & Audio: Video footage captured by the device cameras. Audio is recorded only if you have not enabled the mute option.
- Telemetry Data: Speed, g-force, GPS trajectory, and driving events logged in JSON format alongside video recordings.
None of this data is automatically sent to our servers. It leaves your device only when you explicitly choose to share or upload a clip.
1.2 Data Sent to Our Servers
Data is transmitted to our servers in the following situations:
- Clip Sharing: When you choose to share a video clip, the clip and its associated telemetry are uploaded to our servers for the sole purpose of enabling sharing with recipients you designate. Uploads are anonymous — no user account or device identifier is attached.
- Hazard Data Sharing: When you choose to share unsafe driving clips or hazard reports, the data is uploaded for sharing purposes and may also be processed and anonymized to provide localized services such as community hazard alerts, road condition monitoring, and improved safety warnings in your area.
- Live Trip Sharing: When you opt in, your real-time location is temporarily shared via a unique URL. This data is ephemeral and deleted when the session ends.
- Community Hazard Reports: If you submit a hazard report, the location, hazard type, and an anonymous device identifier (used solely for rate limiting and vote deduplication) are sent to our servers. This identifier cannot be used to identify you personally.
- Speed Limit Lookups: Your approximate location is sent to our server to query speed limits and enforcement cameras from OpenStreetMap data. These queries are not logged or associated with any identity.
- Anonymized Breadcrumbs: During recording sessions, the app may periodically collect and transmit anonymized "breadcrumbs" — including camera images, GPS location, speed, and acceleration data — to our servers for traffic pattern analysis and road condition monitoring. Uploaded images may be temporarily retained in their original form in a processing queue and are automatically blurred (faces and license plates removed) before permanent storage. These breadcrumbs are not associated with any user identity or device identifier.
1.3 Device Identifiers
ClaireCam generates an anonymous, app-specific identifier stored on your device. This identifier is not the Apple Advertising Identifier (IDFA), is not linked to your Apple ID or any personal information, and cannot be used to track you across other apps or websites. It is used for:
- Rate Limiting: Preventing abuse of the hazard reporting system.
- Vote Deduplication: Ensuring one vote per device on community hazard reports.
- Push Notifications: Delivering proximity-based hazard alerts and companion wakeup notifications to your device.
- Live Trip Sharing: Routing peer-to-peer connections between the driver app and companion viewers. This identifier is held in server memory only during active sessions.
This identifier is never shared with third parties and is not included in any anonymized or aggregated datasets.
1.4 Device Information
Basic device information such as device model, operating system version, and app version may be available to us through Apple's App Store Connect analytics when you opt in to share diagnostics with app developers.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Core Functionality: Real-time speed limit display, enforcement camera warnings, driver scoring, and community hazard alerts.
- Video Recording: Loop recording, incident preservation, and optional cloud backup of locked clips.
- Driver Scoring: Computing per-trip safety scores based on acceleration, braking, cornering, and speed limit compliance. Scores and trajectory segments are stored locally on your device.
- Live Trip Sharing: When you opt in to share a live trip, your real-time location is temporarily shared via a unique URL with recipients you choose.
- Traffic Pattern Analysis: Anonymized breadcrumbs (blurred images, location, speed, and acceleration) are used to understand traffic patterns, road conditions, and infrastructure state.
- Service Improvement: Aggregated and anonymized data may be used to improve road safety models, speed limit accuracy, and hazard detection algorithms.
- Commercial Data Licensing: Anonymized, aggregated, and de-identified data may be licensed or sold to third parties for road safety, autonomous vehicle development, insurance analytics, and municipal infrastructure management. See Section 4 for details.
3. Data Storage & Retention
3.1 On-Device Storage
Video recordings, GPS trajectories, telemetry data, and driver score summaries are stored locally on your device. Loop recording automatically overwrites the oldest unlocked footage when storage limits are reached. You control your storage limit in Settings.
3.2 Cloud Storage (for Sharing Purposes)
We provide cloud storage space for the purpose of enabling you to share video clips and hazard data with others. When you choose to upload content, it is stored anonymously with a unique share ID — no user account or device identifier is attached. Uploaded clips are retained for the duration specified in your subscription plan and are deleted upon request.
By uploading video or hazard data, you agree that such data may be processed and anonymized by Claire to provide and improve localized services, including community hazard alerts, road condition monitoring, speed limit verification, and other safety features relevant to the geographic area of the upload. All processing is performed in accordance with applicable local privacy laws.
3.3 Server-Side Data
Speed limit cache data, community hazard reports, and anonymized telemetry used for road safety analysis are stored on our servers. Live trip sharing data is ephemeral and deleted when the sharing session ends.
4. Data Sharing & Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. We do not sell or share data that can be used to identify you personally (such as your name, email, or device identifiers). However, we may sell or license anonymized, aggregated, and de-identified data derived from your use of the Services. This data cannot be traced back to you individually.
4.1 Anonymized Data Licensing
Claire Sense Inc. may license or sell anonymized data to third parties, including:
- Autonomous vehicle and ADAS developers — for training perception models, validating safety systems, and improving road scene understanding.
- Insurance companies — for anonymized driving behavior analytics, risk modeling, and actuarial analysis.
- Municipalities and government agencies — for road asset management, infrastructure condition monitoring, traffic safety analysis, and planning. This includes aggregated hazard location data, road condition indicators, and traffic pattern summaries. No individual trip traces, device identifiers, or personally identifiable information are included in municipal data products.
- Mapping and navigation companies — for road network updates, speed limit verification, and point-of-interest data.
- Research institutions — for road safety research and transportation studies.
All images permanently retained on our servers have faces and license plates automatically blurred. Original unblurred images may be temporarily held in a secure processing queue before anonymization is applied. Personally identifiable elements are removed or obscured before any data is made available to third parties.
