Frequently Asked Questions
ClaireCam turns your iPhone into a dashcam. Mount your phone on the windshield, open the app, and tap Record. Video is saved locally on your device in configurable loop-recording chunks. When storage runs low, the oldest unlocked recordings are automatically deleted.
Yes. When you swipe home during recording, ClaireCam enters Picture-in-Picture mode and continues recording. Tapping the PiP window returns you to the app. Recording also continues on the lock screen via the screensaver mode.
ClaireCam Pro is an optional subscription that unlocks premium features: dual camera recording (front + rear), 4K resolution, 30 fps, speed camera alerts, driver scoring & analytics, and more. The free tier includes full 1080p recording at 10 fps with loop recording and GPS tracking.
Subscriptions are managed through Apple. Go to Settings > [Your Name] > Subscriptions on your iPhone, find ClaireCam Pro, and tap Cancel. You can also manage subscriptions from within the app: Settings > Manage Subscription.
Yes. ClaireCam does not require an account and collects no personal information. All recordings and driving data stay on your device. Data only leaves your phone when you explicitly share a clip. During recording, anonymized data (with faces and plates blurred) may be contributed to improve road safety models. If you have concerns about data contribution, please use the contact form below. Read our full Privacy Policy for details.
You control the storage limit in Settings (from 1 GB to 150 GB). At 1080p/10fps, expect roughly 4.5 GB per hour of recording. At 4K/30fps (Pro), usage is significantly higher. The app shows your current usage and available device space in Settings > Storage.
Location is used for: displaying your current speed, looking up speed limits from OpenStreetMap, tagging recordings with GPS coordinates, driver scoring calculations, and trajectory replay on the map. Location is only accessed during active recording — never in the background when you're not using the app.
Open the Gallery, select a session, and tap the Share button. You can trim the clip, toggle audio, and choose between Export & Share (via AirDrop, Files, or other apps) or Upload & Share Link (generates a shareable web link).
Speed limit data comes from OpenStreetMap and requires an internet connection. Check that: (1) you have cellular or Wi-Fi connectivity, (2) location permissions are granted, and (3) your area has speed limit data in OpenStreetMap. Rural or newly constructed roads may not have coverage.
ClaireCam requires iOS 17.0 or later. Dual camera recording (Pro feature) requires a device with a multi-camera system (iPhone XS or later). The app is optimized for iPhone and is designed for landscape mounting.
